Today's black history month announcement features Hiram Rhodes Revels. Hiram was born in North Carolina in 1827. Hiram’s parents were deeply religious, and this influenced Hiram so much that he went around the country preaching. However, Hiram would later be arrested for preaching to slaves in Missouri. Hiram was eventually released and went back to religious work until 1861 when the civil war broke out. Hiram helped recruit 2 entirely black regiments to fight for the North. After the war, Hiram continued to fight for civil rights, and in 1870 won a senate seat in Mississippi, becoming the first black and Native American member of congress.

Today’s lunch will be: Popcorn Chicken, Salisbury Steak, Cheese Bread with Marinara, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Baby Carrots, Apple Slices, & Pears.

Happy birthday to: Shae Buskohl & Rowan Phillips!
