We will hold Family/Teacher conferences to allow families more time to speak with our staff. We hope to have volunteers available in each hallway to allow for private conversations, if needed. We will plan to meet face to face with families, if you would like to meet virtually, please communicate with our teaching staff. Safety Matters Parent Permission (https://tinyurl.com/y49ddx38)  - This year our school will be using the MBF Child Safety Matters ® program from the Monique Burr Foundation for Children. The goal of the organization is to help keep your child safe. The program empowers children to recognize and respond to bullying, cyberbullying, child abuse, and digital dangers. Most importantly, it teaches that adults are responsible for their safety but there are things they can do to help adults keep them safe. The curriculum is evidence based, created with the latest research, and has been reviewed and endorsed by national experts.

Why does your child need a safety program?

» 1 out of 10 children are abused before their 18th birthday

» 90% of the time, abuse is done by someone the child already knows

» 14% of children have been solicited online

» 1 in 5 students have been bullied

» 73% of children under 17-years-old have viewed explicit material online

The program teaches about these dangers by:

» using age-appropriate, easy to understand language

» playing fun games and activities

» providing take-home items to remind children and parents of the lessons and Safety Rules

To learn more about the program and find additional resources, including information about being a Safe Adult, go to www.mbfpreventioneducation.org. MBF-CSM® is provided by trained facilitators and staff from UnityPoint Health—Allen Child Protection Center. You may contact the Prevention Education Coordinator, Megan Lumetta, at megan.lumetta@unitypoint.org.

When children are taught safety information and rules to help them stay safe, they perform better in school and enjoy healthier, happier, and safer lives. Your child is not required to participate in this presentation, but we do highly encourage them to hear this important and developmentally appropriate message. We want to do everything we can to protect our students, and prevention is the first step. Click here to watch a short informational video.

Second Step - During the third quarter of the school year Team Lincoln will learn about empathy and kindness. When students have empathy and show kindness, they are able to understand and care about how others are feeling. Children learn to listen, include others, and respond with compassion through their words and actions. These skills help create a safe and supportive classroom, strengthen friendships, and teach students how to be respectful and caring members of their school community. Learn how you can support this at home!
