New Announcements

Red Ribbon Week - Red Ribbon Week (October 23rd-October 31st) is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation and a way for people and communities to take a visible stance against drugs. Our students are invited to participate next week with the following dress up days:

Monday - Wear Red Day

Tuesday - Sock it to Drugs Day (crazy socks)

Wednesday - We are “Plaid” to be Drug Free (wear plaid)

Thursday - Team Up Against Drugs (favorite sports team)

Friday - Scare Drugs Away (costumes/Halloween)

Halloween - We will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 29th! We invite our Kinder, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grade students to wear costumes to school. This is encouraged, but not required. Our 5th and 6th grade students will not dress in costumes. Please support all students by not including costumes that will scare others, including fake weapons or blood. We will not be able to have our annual parade this school year. Each class will have a short party instead! Remember, we will dismiss at noon on this day!

Fall Conferences - We are excited to welcome our families and students for student led conferences on November 9th (4:15-8:15) and 11th (1:00-8:00). We ask our students to attend conferences with our families as we work to involve them in sharing their learning. Also, we will allow families to choose if they would like to meet in person or virtually. Please use these directions to sign up between October 15th and November 4th! If you need help scheduling, you can also call the school at 319.553.2950. It is our goal to meet with every student and family!

Please carefully review this letter regarding our use of the SAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) tool.

Please carefully review this letter regarding safety drills and upcoming off site and dangerous intruder drills.

General Reminders

Face Coverings - we strongly encourage the continued use of face coverings at school. Our goal is to be in school learning and know this played a large role in helping us accomplish that goal last school year. Thank you for helping keep all members of our school community safe!

Visitors and Volunteers - to support safety, we will not be able to allow families to enter our classrooms as the school year begins. On the first day of school, we will have staff available to help our students find their classrooms as they enter the building. Thank you for saying goodbye at the door! In addition, if you come to the building to pick up your child, you can enter the office or call and we will walk the student outside to our visitor parking spots.

Arrival And Dismissal - we are working to help our students safely enter and leave the building. In the morning, we will ask students to arrive between 8:30 and 8:45. They will report to their classrooms. At the end of the day, we will first dismiss students by grade who ride the bus. Following this, we will dismiss students who are picked up or walk home. Our staff will walk students to the door. Our Kindergarten and 1st grade students will dismiss at their outside classroom doors, second grade will dismiss onto the east playground, third grade will also dismiss onto the east playground, fourth grade will dismiss using our main entrance doors on 8th street and 5th and 6th grade will dismiss using our 7th street doors. We appreciate families making and following consistent after school plans. Thank you for helping us support safe morning arrivals and afternoon dismissals!

Snacks and Birthday Treats - We are proud to be a Blue Zones school and encourage healthy choices when students bring food for their daily snack. In addition, to support safety this school year when celebrating birthdays, we will ask for families to bring prepackaged items to minimize handling. Thank you!

See you next week!
