Safety Reminders:

Our school and school district will maintain our safety procedures regarding masks, hand washing and regular cleaning.

We would appreciate having all families wear face masks when dropping off or picking up from school. In addition, please help our students keep them on until you leave our school and school grounds. Thank you!

Face Coverings - please remember that students will be required to have a face covering at school and on the bus. The most recent guidance from our state states that if a student is exposed to a positive case in a community setting such as school and both people are properly wearing masks, the exposed individual would not need to quarantine. This will only apply to students who are wearing masks, not face shields. Our most recent Return To Learn family frequently asked questions document can be found here.

Visitors and Volunteers - to support safety, we will not be able to allow visitors or volunteers to enter our classrooms. We will continue to have adults in the hallway to help our students each morning. In addition, if you come to the building to pick up your child, you can enter the office or call and we will walk the student outside to our visitor parking spots.

Arrival And Dismissal - we are working to help our students safely enter and leave the building. In the morning, we ask students to arrive between 8:30 and 8:45. Please do not come before 8:30. After 8:30, we will continue to ask students to report to their classrooms. At the end of the day, we will dismiss students by grade to the bus. Following this, we will dismiss students who are picked up or walk home. Our staff will walk students to the door. There will be no after school activities so we will expect students to leave school immediately following dismissal. Thank you for your patience as we work to support student safety each morning and afternoon.

Additional Announcements:

Take Charge Of Your Body - Our school will offer the Take Charge Of Your Body program the week of May 3rd through May 7th. Information about this program is outlined in this letter as well as this parent video. We partner with the Family and Children’s Council of Black Hawk County to offer this learning opportunity. Please carefully review both the letter and the video. If you do not wish for your student to participate, please return the form to your child’s teacher.

Virtual Literacy Night - we will offer a virtual Literacy Night for our families on Thursday, May 6th at 6:30 PM! Our focus audience will be students currently in Kindergarten, first, second or third grade. We will share opportunities and resources to support summer learning. This will be held via Zoom. To get the link, please email Mr. Bryant (ralph.bryant@cfschools.org). If you can’t attend, we will share a recording following the meeting.

Please Provide Feedback!

 - Each year our Lighthouse Team gathers student, staff and family feedback on our Leader In Me work. Please take this short survey (10-15 minutes) to help us plan for next school year!

A candidate for this award must be a full-time practicing pre-K-12 teacher or administrator in the Cedar Falls Community School District, Valley Lutheran School, or St. Patrick Catholic School. If you are an administrator, staff member, student, parent, or community member who knows such an educator, you are invited to submit a nomination. Educators may not nominate themselves. The recipient of this award will receive $500.00 and a plaque recognizing him/her as the Cedar Falls Lions Club Outstanding Educator of the Year. Summer Opportunities - please visit this link for summer athletic camp opportunities!

Morning Arrival and Afternoon Dismissal - as weather gets warmer, this is a friendly reminder that students should not arrive before we open our doors at 8:30. In addition, when students are dismissed at the end of the day they should head directly home unless they are under the direct supervision of an adult. We do not have supervision for students at these times. Thank you for helping to support student safety!

Water Bottles - please send students with a refillable water bottle each day. Our water fountains are not turned on and this will help them to stay hydrated.
