Rob Welter Wins School Grant

Holmes Junior High’s own Rob Welter has been awarded two grants for his Science class. Mr. Welter was recently granted the KWWL Tools for School Award and the Cedar Falls Schools Foundation Grant, both of which will help fund a special project for his science students.

Mr. Welter had this to say on the project:

We will be building "circuit blocks" - small manipulatives that can be connected and experimented with. Students will use them to learn about electric current, types of circuits, and basic inputs and outputs. They will also use them to design experiments to test how certain variables (like voltage and current) affect outcomes (brightness of a light bulb, volume of a buzzer). We can also use the circuit blocks to learn about solar energy, wind energy, and other renewable energies. Lastly, students can use the circuit blocks to build "energy transfer devices" to show how energy is transferred from one object to another.

Collaborative and hands-on learning creates a special opportunity for students to apply their learning into real-world scenarios. Specifically in a course such as science, this will be a wonderful project for students to understand scientific concepts in real-time.

We congratulate Mr. Welter on this honor and thank him for dedication to providing students unique opportunities and experiences within the classroom!
