Today we are going to talk about Katherine Johnson ….2/24 - Katherine Johnson was a mathematician who worked for NASA from 1953 to 1986. She was one of three black people who attended West Virginia University when it was integrated in 1939. She is most known for her work at NASA, doing complex mathematical calculations for John Glenn’s orbit around Earth in 1962, as well as working on the Apollo Mission Lunar Module. In 2015, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest honor for civilians. She died on this day, February 24th, just two years ago in 2020 at 101 years old.
