The All-Iowa Eighth Grade Honor Band is a 132-piece ensemble. Each of Iowa’s six Bandmasters districts selects 22 of its finest students for participation. The Northeast district has schools from Cedar Rapids to Decorah to Dubuque. The selected students perform a concert at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference in May. Alternates are students who are recognized as being All-Iowa quality, but space limitations mean they likely will not participate in the event.

The IBA All Iowa Eighth Grade Honor Band was founded to provide a special performance opportunity for our most outstanding eighth grade band students and perform a new piece specifically composed for them
