We hear you. We see you. We stand with you. #BlackLivesMatter #TigersTogether
As a District, we recognize the death of Mr. George Floyd and countless other members of the Black community impacts many students and families. Our Districtwide Equity Committee will meet and explore continued avenues of support and opportunities. Change may seem impossible. But it can take place with conversations and action. Sometimes it can be difficult to talk about race and inequality, but these conversations are necessary, and as leaders of our schools we are working on what those conversations are and need to be. Cedar Falls Schools is committed to maintaining safety for each and every person and will continue to work with stakeholders, including student-led groups, like Mentors for Violence Prevention (MVP) that will also explore inequities and how we can collectively collaborate to close them. We are reflecting on actions we can take to contribute to the greater effort. While no one act will end racial injustice, we believe that the cumulative effect of many acts will create systemic change. In solidarity with Black families, educators, and community members, we are committed to listening, learning, growing, and acting to realize a future in which every child has the opportunity to flourish unhindered by racism and racial injustice. We are developing and will send out resources soon to families on how best to start these conversations with their children and continue conversations in a positive learning framework.
