What is IMPACT?

IMPACT isn’t a what, it’s a who! Involved Motivated Parents And Caring Teachers is Southdale's parent teacher organization. IMPACT’s goal is to support the Southdale community.

How Do We Make An IMPACT?

Teachers receive a stipend each year to enrich their classrooms. We also support purchasing new books for the classroom at book fairs. 

We love sponsoring field trips, the yearbook, safety patrol, and family movie nights. Telling teachers “thank you” and appreciating them throughout the year is an easy and fun job to do.  Selling Candygrams, where students can send encouraging messages to each other along with a candy cane, is our winter favorite.

Spring means the This Is Me! Showcase where all Southdale students have a chance to show the community what they love to do. It is great to see these talented, young leaders in action.

Resurfacing the playground was our most recent multi-year project. We completed our goal of raising $80,000 and now our kids have a safe surface to play on. Even the basics of selling spirit wear and putting together a student directory are important ways we make an IMPACT.

How We Raise Funds

Our main fundraiser is in the fall. We sell various merchandise like wrapping paper, cookie dough, and other gifts. Before you roll your eyes at “more wrapping paper,” please know this brings in $13,000 - $14,000 for Southdale in a short amount of time.

With your help, we collect funds through Hy-Vee Receipts ($3,000/year) and Box Tops ($1,000/year). Yes, all those receipts really add up! Selling Spirit Wear ($1,200) and various Meal Nights at local restaurants (e.g., Olive Garden, Marcos, Hy-Vee, Pizza Ranch) help round out our fundraising efforts.

Please collect and turn in your Hy-Vee Receipts and Box Tops to your child’s teacher!

How Can You Help?

We have various activities running throughout the year. You can volunteer one hour or ten. You do not have to attend monthly IMPACT meetings to help out on committees. Volunteering can be done during the day or after work.

Areas where we need help: data entry for spirit gear orders & student directory; assembling and distributing spirit gear orders, candygrams; distribution of fall fundraiser merchandise (one night event); graphic design work for fliers and posters; hosts for movie night (pop popcorn, turn on the DVD projector in the gym); counting box tops and Hy-Vee receipts; teacher appreciation donations, set up, clean up; yearbook; new ideas

Meetings for the 2019-2020 School Year

We typically meet the 1st Monday at 6 p.m. in the Southdale Library. Meetings last one hour and you are welcome to bring your kids.
