Medication Procedures and Requirements

Medication

Medications to be given at school must be brought to the school office in the original container with proper instructions included. Written parental/guardian permission is required for all prescription/over-the-counter (OTC) medication to be given at school. Medications are administered through the school nurse's office. Medications should be brought to school/health office by parents/guardians; likewise, medication will only be sent home with parent/guardians.

Natural remedies and/or supplements will only be given if the parent/guardian provides documentation to support the appropriateness; safety; possible side effects; toxic effects of the substance; the appropriate dosage for specific age, weight, and body surface area; and treatment of overdose. The parent/guardian must also provide written approval from the student's physician. A medication administration permission form must be signed by the parent/guardian before the medication will be given at school.

Self administration of certain medications (Inhalers, Insulin, Epi-pens) must also have parent/guardian and physician approval.
