Individual Counseling

Celebrating Families, Celebrating Growth

Today is a Day 4.

Individual Counseling

Mr. Berns is available to meet with students privately on an individual basis. The counseling relationship allows children to explore feelings and interests and provides an opportunity to explore specific issues or concerns. Mr. Berns strives to help students develop a better understanding of themselves and others.

Issues commonly discussed with students may include:
school concerns
study skills
learning problems
transitions/change
social skills
family concerns
decision-making
worries and fears
personal hygiene
rejections
coping skills
teasing/bullying
grief/loss
peer relationships
stress management
conflicts
anger management
self-acceptance
goal setting
self-improvement
behavior concerns
responsibility
physical concerns
underachievement

How does a child see the counselor?
Students may request an appointment with the counselor on their own or they may be referred by teachers or parents. Students may schedule regular counseling sessions either individually or in small groups to work on issues which may be interfering with academic performance or personal development. Individual meetings are scheduled around core instruction and at times that are least intrusive to the instructional day.
