Osmos in 2nd Grade

Orchard Hill 2nd graders are having an amazing time experiencing the Osmo. What's an Osmo you might be asking? Osmo is hands on—it's a set of iPad games played with real-world pieces. You set the ipad on a unique stand with a red plastic reflector that redirects the iPad's front-facing camera to the game pieces as your child interacts with them on a table or floor. These second graders pictured here had a great time manipulating the pieces to solve problems in order to fill their aquarium with fish. The Osmo is able to determine how your child is solving how to build a number using only 1, 2, and 5. Say the number 18 popped up on the screen. Second graders were able to figure out....Oh.... I need 5 + 5 + 5 + 2 + 1 in order to pop the bubble to help fill up the aquarium. Think of all the connections in math they are making including building their number sense!! The kits are there until the end of the month!
