Orchard Hill's First Lego League Team qualifies for State Competition

Orchard Hill's First Lego League Team - #5571 "The Tenacious Tigers" - participated in the regional Lego League event held at Peet Junior High on Saturday, December 3. Congrats to the Nuclear Nerds! They were selected to move on to the state competition in Ames on January 14, 2017. For those who have not had a chance to experience Lego League, it is much more than building with Legos! It involves computer programming to make a robot complete a mission on a large wooden surface. Please join us Friday, December 9th at 6 PM for our Family Movie Night. We will enjoy The Secret Life Of Pets. During the week, we will celebrate our own pets by raising money for The Cedar Bend Humane society. Food Drive Thank You!

Thank you for your help in the Student Leadership Council Food Drive!  As a school, we raised $379.52 and brought in 930 cans!  In the K-3 category, 3rd grade collected the most cans and money!  In the 4th-6th grade category, 4th grade brought in the most cans and 6th grade brought in the most money.  The Northeast Iowa Food Bank will appreciate all of the donations!

What an amazing performance! Our Northside Orchestra, made up of students from North Cedar, Orchard Hill, Hansen and Lincoln, treated us to a concert dedicated to their peer, recovering from medical difficulties. Starting on the 14th of November 6th grade Leadership Council will be hosting a food drive for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. One of our goals at Lincoln is to involve students in our school though jobs. We have committed to holding a job rally each month to involve as many of our 3rd-6th grade student leaders. Lincoln Singers Audition for Opus!

Twenty seven 5th and 6th grade students auditioned for a state wide honor choir called Opus. To audition, students sang a major scale, America, and an Italian piece called La Danza (that they actually sang in Italian!). Tiger Kickoff

Mr. Meyer and several others went above and beyond the call of duty to set up the Tiger Kickoff for our fall athletes - of special note Stormy and Melissa gave of their own time to come back to help with the event and after the event was over at Holmes took meals to our 9th grade football players who were still practicing at Peet, our coaches who stayed around after the event to help our custodial staff clean up.  Thank you to all that helped and came.

Holmes Students Participate in All-Iowa Eighth Grade State Honor Band

Congratulations to Holmes band students Megan Smith, David Butler, Christopher Sell and Emma Cryer on their acceptance into the 2016 All-Iowa Eighth Grade State Honor Band. More than 250 students competed at the district level for one of the 22 spots from the Northeast district of Iowa. The students performed at the state convention in May, including a premiere piece written in their honor and conducted by the composer.
