Maya Potter and Melia Stone were selected to perform with the Opus Honor Choir in Ames, Iowa on November 16, 2017.  Both students enjoyed their experience.  Maya appreciated meeting so many new, different people and Melia felt the opportunity reminded her to be herself, stay positive, and keep trying.  Great job!

Science Olympiad

On March 25th Holmes Science Club competed in the Iowa Science Olympiad at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Teams from across the state competed for the right to represent Iowa at the national competition in Dayton, Ohio in May. Food Drive Thank You!

Thank you for your help in the Student Leadership Council Food Drive!  As a school, we raised $379.52 and brought in 930 cans!  In the K-3 category, 3rd grade collected the most cans and money!  In the 4th-6th grade category, 4th grade brought in the most cans and 6th grade brought in the most money.  The Northeast Iowa Food Bank will appreciate all of the donations!

Lincoln Singers Audition for Opus!

Twenty seven 5th and 6th grade students auditioned for a state wide honor choir called Opus. To audition, students sang a major scale, America, and an Italian piece called La Danza (that they actually sang in Italian!). We had an amazing turnout at Popsicles On The Playground! A huge thanks to PALS for hosting this event to allow our families to begin to get to know each other and enjoy a beautiful fall evening. In addition, we are thankful to those that stayed or joined us at our first PALS meeting of the year. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 PM. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 11th at 7 PM. See you there!

Tiger Kickoff

Mr. Meyer and several others went above and beyond the call of duty to set up the Tiger Kickoff for our fall athletes - of special note Stormy and Melissa gave of their own time to come back to help with the event and after the event was over at Holmes took meals to our 9th grade football players who were still practicing at Peet, our coaches who stayed around after the event to help our custodial staff clean up.  Thank you to all that helped and came.

Boost 2016

We had 154 students participate in the Boost Program this year.  Students will better prepared for the transition to junior high. Emphasis was placed upon appropriate skill development and subject areas including reading, math, science and organization skills. Holmes Students Participate in All-Iowa Eighth Grade State Honor Band

Congratulations to Holmes band students Megan Smith, David Butler, Christopher Sell and Emma Cryer on their acceptance into the 2016 All-Iowa Eighth Grade State Honor Band. More than 250 students competed at the district level for one of the 22 spots from the Northeast district of Iowa. The students performed at the state convention in May, including a premiere piece written in their honor and conducted by the composer.

Lighthouse Team Helps Build Life Skills

A movement has started at Lincoln! A goal of our Lighthouse Team has been to involve our students in jobs across our building. To begin this work, we held a Student Jobs Rally and Kickoff this afternoon. After a quick introduction by Mr. Sprau, our students were able to learn about their jobs and build a schedule.
