National Spanish Exam Results

Congratulations to Spanish students from Holmes Junior High School who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2018 National Spanish Examinations. Arbor Day Tree Planting

On Friday, April 27, the students in Miss Robinson's 4th and 6th hour science classes planted a Tulip Tree to celebrate Arbor Day.  A big thank you goes out to Green Scene of Black Hawk County and Jordan's Nursery for providing the tree.  Thanks also goes to retired teacher, Sue Green, who coordinated and helped with the planting.

Representatives from Google recently attended a ceremony at Holmes to announce that eighth grader Abbi Zaugg is one of the 53 state and territory winners in its annual Doodle 4 Google competition, a contest open to K-12 students across the United States to redesign the Google logo, inspired by the theme “What Inspires Me" with her doodle, “Galaxy of Music.” On her entry, Abbi said, “I love music and art. Science Olympiad Team Places at State Competition

On April 7th Holmes Junior High grabbed both the 2nd place trophy and a 5th place finish in the Iowa Science Olympiad. The contest was held at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This was only the second time in its 18 year history that the Holmes Science Club has entered two teams in the Olympiad. Road Less Traveled

On April 12th Holmes Jr. High sent a delegation of 39 young women in 9th Grade Physical Science to the Taking the Road Less Traveled conference on the Iowa State Campus in Ames, Iowa. The conference is a program promoting women in science, technology, engineering, and math careers.
