Our 6th Northside Band sounded amazing during their concert at Hansen on Thursday night! Students from Hansen, North Cedar and Lincoln treated the audience to six songs demonstrating their learning and the amazing amount of growth since beginning band a little over a year ago! Thank You For The Blanket Donations!

We are thankful for the support of our students, families and local community!  Starting with 288 yards of solid colored fleece, students and families who are members of the  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints created 70 blankets and cards to go along with the blankets. These blankets were donated to both Lincoln and Southdale Elementary Schools to provide to students. Thank You Cedar Falls Schools Foundation!

We are thankful for the support provided by the Cedar Falls Schools Foundation! We had two groups submit Teacher Excellence Grants that were funded to support our students! The first grant was written by Mrs. Klein and Mrs. Linck, who won the Carol Brenden Award to support Shared Reading instruction through big and little books. In addition, Mrs. Droe was awarded a grant to support tinikiling in Music. Congrats to both groups!

Next week we will continue to raise funds for our playground installation with Pocket Change For The Playground. Lincoln Donates To The UNI Dance Marathon!

Lincoln students and staff have a heart for giving! Each year, we hold a mini dance marathon to support Iowa Children's Hospitals and Clinics. This year, we had three students step forward to help us raise funds to donate. In addition to selling hearts around Valentine's Day for $1 each, we asked students to donate .25 cents for each book they read this fall. Congrats to the Nuclear Nerds! They were selected to move on to the state competition in Ames on January 14, 2017. Farm To School Taste Testing

Lincoln students had the opportunity to taste test for a potential alternate lunch option. Thanks to our Farm To School volunteers, students had the chance to sample yogurt parfaits containing yogurt, granola and different fruits (mango and strawberry). Students as Teachers

This week, as I walked into numerous classrooms, there was a quiet "buzz" within the rooms. Students were spread around the room, working in pairs and working in groups. Amazing Performance 6th Grade Vocalists!

Our Sixth Grade students and chorus participants shared their learning with us Monday night! We enjoyed an amazing performance complete with swords! In addition, our chorus students shared their work with us in the middle of the performance. We appreciate the support of our families. Last, we especially appreciate Mrs. Droe for her work with our vocalists and helping them to shine!

Our November Student Jobs Rally Was A Success!

One of our goals at Lincoln is to involve students in our school though jobs. We have committed to holding a job rally each month to involve as many of our 3rd-6th grade student leaders. We started this journey in October and today these student leaders trained our next round of students. We are excited to continue this journey and provide learning in addition to classroom skills.

Ms. Sullivan's Third Grade Class Supports The Des Moines Police Department

Ms. Sullivans's third grade class made posters for the Des Moines police force to support them during this tragic time.   Ms. Sullivan has a friend on the Des Moines Police force who works the night shift.   She was relived to get a text from him saying that he was ok. The class decided to do a service project for him and his colleagues.  They sent the photo of the class with the posters to him and he was very thankful.

A Kindergarten Celebration!

I love a parade!  Mrs. Klein's kindergarten class held a Favorite Storybook parade today as a celebration of the hard work they have been doing in Reader's Workshop!  We remembered the strategies we have learned and practiced to get to this point and boy do we have a lot of posters to refer to!  I have told them how proud of them I am so many times, they are telling me, "here she goes again!"  Keep up the great work Super Readers!

Outstanding Show 5th Grade Singers!

Our fifth grade students and chorus participants displayed their learning tonight during their concert! They sang several songs and featured their skills playing multiple instruments! In addition, our 5th grade chorus treated us to a few songs during the middle of the performance. Thanks to our students and families for their support! A special thanks for Mrs. Droe for her work with the students and even involving our audience!

Lincoln Singers Audition for Opus!

Twenty seven 5th and 6th grade students auditioned for a state wide honor choir called Opus. To audition, students sang a major scale, America, and an Italian piece called La Danza (that they actually sang in Italian!). Approximately 1,000 5/6 students around the state of Iowa audition for this group and only 180 are selected. You Are Invited To Lincoln's Literacy Night!

Lincoln Students and Parents - you are invited to join us for Literacy Night on Thursday, September 13th from 6:00-7:00 PM. We encourage you to pick two sessions, including one in your child's classroom, where you will learn about work in Reader's Workshop, as well as learn about Digital Books in our Cafeteria and supporting fluency in our Art Room. Lincoln 4th Grade Use Coding

Mr. Rhoads' class is using their knowledge of coding and applying it to real-world situations. The goal is to create a race track and enter code into their robotic car in this exciting, hands-on STEM activity. Students are learning how to input the proper code to help their car and their group achieve the goal of  racing past the finish line.
