Weekly Memo

Dear Hansen Families,

It was a chilly but great week for learning! Here are several announcements:

Red Ribbon Week:

  • Next week (October 26th - 30th) is Red Ribbon Week! This year's theme is "Be Happy, Be Brave, Be Drug Free!" Students will engage in conversation around being brave in our decision making during their daily class meetings.

Noon-Dismissal:

  • There will be a 12:00 p.m. dismissal on Friday, October 30th on behalf of parent-teacher conference preparation.  If you ordered a sack lunch, it will be sent home with your child but lunch will not otherwise be served at school.  If your child's dismissal procedures will differ from their regular routine, please be sure to notify your child's classroom teacher.

Lunchroom Rotations:

  • In order to provide all grades more space and an opportunity to travel outside of the classroom, classes will eat lunch in the lunchroom for two weeks followed by the classroom for two weeks. This coming week Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students will eat in the lunchroom.

Parent Teacher Conference Sign-Up:

  • Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for November 10th and 12th and will be held virtually using zoom. Please use the following information to sign-up for conferences by October 30th.
  • Visit the Canyon Creek website.
  • From the Online Scheduler Home Page Choose your student’s school from the drop down list and click “GO”
  • Enter the school password: hansen
  • Click on the LOOKUP STUDENT ID button.
  • Enter in your student’s first name, last name and birth date.
  • A list of your student’s teachers will be displayed. Check the box next to the name of each teacher(s) you would like to meet with. If you have more than one student in the school you can see all of your students’ teachers’ schedules at one time by answering YES to this question “Do you want to schedule conferences for another student?”
  • Repeat the steps above for your other students. If you only have one student, answer NO to that question.
  • You will then see the available time slots for each teacher you selected.
  • Select the times that work best for your schedule.
  • Enter your email address (recommended) if you would like an email reminder sent to you. (Your email address is kept private.)
  • Once you have finished you can confirm your appointment details and print your conference schedule.
  • Write down the Confirmation Number (you will need this number if you need to cancel your appointment(s)).

Halloween:

  • Given safety protocols and limitations on visitors within our building, we will not be holding a Halloween parade. Students are welcome to wear a costume to school on Friday, October 30th. We ask that you do not utilize face paint or wear costumes that include weapons or blood. Individual classrooms will be holding celebrations within their classroom prior to our noon dismissal.

Food Drive:

  • Hansen Ambassadors are hosting a monetary food drive for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank from October 12th - November 4th. The Food Bank is serving more needs right now as Covid-19 has impacted our Waterloo and Cedar Falls community. A $2 donation equals 8 meals and our district has set a goal to raise enough to support 45,000 meals this year. Please see this flyer for donation details.

Fliers:

  • Don't forget to check out community opportunities on our fliers page on the District website!

Hansen PTA News:

  • Please send in what you have saved so far for Box Tops and Hy-Vee receipts by this Tuesday, October 27th. Are you also entering your receipts on the Box Top app for all those digital earnings? If you have questions about this, please contact hansenelempta@gmail.com.
  • Be on the lookout for information regarding spirit wear in the next couple weeks! We are hoping to do some voting next week and then will work on getting the new design put together.
  • If you don't already follow us on Facebook, please do so. It is a great way to stay up to date on what is happening!

Have a wonderful weekend!
