What is a school foundation, and why do we need one?
The Cedar Falls Schools Foundation (CFSF) is comprised of educators and citizens in our community who work to broaden the base of support for the school district in order to fund vital educational programs, expand cultural enrichment opportunities, and provide the equipment and facilities necessary to meet the growing needs of our students and the community.
What exactly does your Foundation fund?
In addition to administering many grants to fund professional development, teacher projects, CAPS, connect>CF, and other district programs, the CFSF also distributes scholarships and supports funding for programs like Leader in Me. Click here for information on our grant programs.
How is the Foundation funded? Is it with my tax dollars or with a portion of the school district budget?
No tax dollars or school district funds are used to support the Foundation. We are solely supported by donations from the community, alumni and friends.
How are the Foundation and the School District related?
The CFSF provides support for programs and services for Cedar Falls teachers, students and administrators, but we are a completely separate entity from the Cedar Falls Community School District and the Board Of Education. The Cedar Falls Schools Foundation is an Iowa nonprofit corporation for the sole benefit of the Cedar Falls Community School District and is exempt from federal income taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We do not provide funding for programs that are part of the expected services and programs of the School District.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Because we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, your donation is likely tax deductible. Check with your tax professional for information specific to your situation.
How do I donate? Can I specify where my donation goes?
Donations are accepted either online or by mail. Click here to donate online. We welcome your directed donation. If you do not designate a fund for your donation, it will be placed in the Unrestricted Fund to be used in the area of greatest need.
What do you do for CFHS Alumni?
We are the administrative connection for alumni and their respective class reunions and are becoming the go-to site for all CFHS alumni reunion activities. We maintain a list of current contact information for all CFHS alums and will email registered classmates with reunion event schedules. We welcome your addition to our contact information: click here to register with the Alumni Network.
