Osmos in 2nd Grade

Orchard Hill 2nd graders are having an amazing time experiencing the Osmo. What's an Osmo you might be asking? Osmo is hands on—it's a set of iPad games played with real-world pieces. You set the ipad on a unique stand with a red plastic reflector that redirects the iPad's front-facing camera to the game pieces as your child interacts with them on a table or floor. Food Drive Thank You!

Thank you for your help in the Student Leadership Council Food Drive!  As a school, we raised $379.52 and brought in 930 cans!  In the K-3 category, 3rd grade collected the most cans and money!  In the 4th-6th grade category, 4th grade brought in the most cans and 6th grade brought in the most money.  The Northeast Iowa Food Bank will appreciate all of the donations!

Starting on the 14th of November 6th grade Leadership Council will be hosting a food drive for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. There will be a box each classroom for the food.  We recommend that you send in canned fruit, canned tuna, canned chicken, cream soups, whole grain pasta or rice or dried beans.  The food bank does not need canned vegetables. Orchard Hill will celebrate Halloween on Monday, October 31.  The parade will start at 2:45 on the blacktop (weather permitting).  K-3 students will march in the parade and 4-6 students will be spectators.  Parties will follow in the classroom.  Students should bring their costumes to change into on that day.  We ask that costumes be appropriate for school. 5th graders code with Ozobots

Ozobots are tiny robots that are used to show block coding. They read 4 basic colors- red, green, blue, and black. You can create a track that Ozobot can follow using a black marker, and then using those 4 colors you can create codes that Ozobots will do. They can do a moonwalk, spin like a tornado, jump left, jump right, speed ahead, or go super slow. Those are just SOME of the things Ozobot can do!
