6th Grade Students Perform at Opus

Maya Potter and Melia Stone were selected to perform with the Opus Honor Choir in Ames, Iowa on November 16, 2017.  Both students enjoyed their experience.  Maya appreciated meeting so many new, different people and Melia felt the opportunity reminded her to be herself, stay positive, and keep trying.  Great job!

First Lego League Competes

Serving Those Who Serve

Marking the Miles in Mile Club

Mile Club is off to a great start! This club is for 3rd-6th grade students who wish to run during lunch recess. The totals are in for the month of September and it appears that 4th Grade Peters' class is in the lead with 110 miles! The North Cedar School total is at 270 miles!Our current "Top Runner" for the month of September is Triven Frey. Congratulations, Triven! Students can earn mile club tokens when they turn in their cards. Remember, exercise helps to build strong minds and bodies!

Families join us for Literacy Night

Many of our students and their families visited North Cedar for Literacy Night on Tuesday, September 19th.  The students met with their classroom teachers to complete student-friendly activities focused on growth mindset, while parents listened to a reading and growth mindset presentation by our reading teachers.  A book swap, a "nest" themed artwork activity, and snacks were enjoyed by all.

Students Attend "Nest" Dedication

On Thursday, August 31, North Cedar Elementary students and staff took a nature walk through the North Cedar Natural Resource Project.  Their destination was a large, heavy, steel nest.  Students and staff attended the dedication ceremony of “Nest”, a steel sculpture created by artist Tommy Riefe.  Kristina Mehmen of the Cedar Falls Public Art Committee introduced Riefe to the students.  Riefe explained his inspiration for “Nest” was from walking the same path the students had just [...]

UNI Student Trombone Quartet Collaborates with 6th Grade Band

The 6th Grade Band had a chance to collaborate with the UNI Trombone Quartet at Friday morning's band rehearsal.  The quartet consists of student teacher Paul Lichty, Nathaniel Welshons, Seth Nordin, and Tom Rauch.  The quartet performed two pieces: Elegy Opus #47 by Edward Grieg and Hungarian Dance by Johannes Brahms, arranged by Elkjer.  The sixth graders were inspired by the technical abilities and great tone of the performers.  The UNI students then sat in with the band and played alon [...]

The North Cedar teachers and staff were kind to help at McTeacher's night at the McDonalds on 1st Street on Thursday, November 3rd. The teachers made people's orders, and cooked it. Let the Games Begin!

Let the games begin!  During the first two weeks of school North Cedar Elementary P.E. students along with their teacher, Mr. Cross, celebrated the recent 2017 Summer Olympics by conducting their own version of the olympic games.  Students competed in a variety of track and field events along with a few other creative games including “swimming” and “rowing” on scooters, “torch” relays and “water polo”.
