At the end of the school year, one of the traditions at Holmes Jr. High is that the students recycle their left over school supplies (if they aren't taking them home to use next year.)  Eight tightly packed boxes of supplies were donated to the Boys and Girls Club in Waterloo.  Pictured is Kali and Makayla sorting the supplies.  They volunteered two of their study halls to help with this project.

On March 25th Holmes Science Club competed in the Iowa Science Olympiad at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Teams from across the state competed for the right to represent Iowa at the national competition in Dayton, Ohio in May. The idance is a video game that works the leg muscles and helps to improve cardiovascular endurance. While traditional video games are criticized for encouraging a sedentary lifestyle, the idance does quite the opposite. Students move to the beat of a song while trying to step on arrows in a specific sequence. It’s a great physical activity that is highly motivating and fun!

Ms. Sullivan's Third Grade Class Supports The Des Moines Police Department

Ms. Sullivans's third grade class made posters for the Des Moines police force to support them during this tragic time.   Ms. Sullivan has a friend on the Des Moines Police force who works the night shift.   She was relived to get a text from him saying that he was ok. The class decided to do a service project for him and his colleagues.  They sent the photo of the class with the posters to him and he was very thankful.

From England, she has visited Cedar Falls a handful of times and has always wanted to return to Lincoln. Today, she returned for a tour! Lincoln Singers Audition for Opus!

Twenty seven 5th and 6th grade students auditioned for a state wide honor choir called Opus. To audition, students sang a major scale, America, and an Italian piece called La Danza (that they actually sang in Italian!). Walk to School Day

Food Drive

Northeast Iowa Food Drive is beginning MONDAY, October 10th!  This is the Food Bank's largest food drive of the year, so they are really counting on us to help the many struggling families in the Cedar Valley.  This year the Food Drive is from October 10th until November 4th.  Thanks again for your support! OUR CURRENT GOAL is 20,000 lbs of food from our district donation. Thanks For Attending Popsicles On The Playground!

We had an amazing turnout at Popsicles On The Playground! A huge thanks to PALS for hosting this event to allow our families to begin to get to know each other and enjoy a beautiful fall evening. Tiger Kickoff

Mr. Meyer and several others went above and beyond the call of duty to set up the Tiger Kickoff for our fall athletes - of special note Stormy and Melissa gave of their own time to come back to help with the event and after the event was over at Holmes took meals to our 9th grade football players who were still practicing at Peet, our coaches who stayed around after the event to help our custodial staff clean up.  Thank you to all that helped and came.

We had 154 students participate in the Boost Program this year.  Students will better prepared for the transition to junior high. Emphasis was placed upon appropriate skill development and subject areas including reading, math, science and organization skills.
