February is Black History month. During announcements this month, we will shine a spotlight on different African-Americans who have historical significance and have made contributions to our history and culture both locally and globally.

Today’s Black History Month spotlight is on Lulu Merle Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was the first black woman in the United States to be granted a doctorate degree.  She earned that degree from the University of Iowa.
