Lincoln Weekly Announcements 2019-03-13

Academics Lincoln Elementary

Lincoln Families - I am sending this message a little early this week. Please remember we will dismiss at NOON on Thursday, March 14th! Please make plans to ensure students are picked up promptly at dismissal. In addition, we will be serving lunch before leaving at noon on Thursday and students are welcome to order a lunch or bring their own. Last, our conference scheduler is closed and we would still like to meet with you! Please contact either our teachers or the office to sign up for a time.

A few important dates for your planning:

3.15 - No school

3.18-3.22 - Spring Break!

3.25 - We begin adding 15 minutes to the end of each instructional day until the end of the school year

3.26 - 4th Grade to Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony at the GBPAC at 12:15

3.27 - Fire Drill at 10:30 AM

3.27 - Last day to send Box Tops, Milk Moola caps and strips and Hy Vee receipts for our Spring drive!

3.29 - 1st Grade to Diary of A Spider, A Worm and A Fly at 12:30 PM

Reminder that we will extend our school day beginning Monday, March 25th! Due to the historic winter weather we have endured the last several months the Cedar Falls CSD will make adjustments to our daily schedule starting Monday, March 25 the first school day back following Spring Break. We will add 15 minutes of instructional time to the end of each day. This means that the student academic day for elementary students will end at 4:00PM (Wednesdays at 2:05). This change to the length of the day will allow the District to recoup 2 full days of instruction and move the last day for students to June 6.

Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) - Beginning this Spring, all Iowa 3rd-11th grade students will begin taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) tests. These tests will replace the Iowa Assessments and will take place during the week of April 15th. In addition, these will be taken digitally using our Chromebooks. We will begin working with our students using practice tests to help them become familiar with both the format of the tests and types of questions they will be answering. These practice tests are available for use by our families as well! If you have questions, please let us know!

Please help PALS with Box Tops, Milk Moola caps and strips and Hy-Vee receipts! Please send your Box Tops, Milk Moola caps and strips, and Hy Vee receipts to school! Classrooms will be setting goals to collect these items, and will get classroom rewards! Please bring these in by March 27th!

The Cedar Falls Schools works diligently to minimize the use of pesticides in school buildings and on school grounds. We have a large amount of ants that are unable to be contained through our normal process of cleaning, trapping and management practices at Lincoln. Over spring break, we will have a non-harmful spot spraying occur to help contain the ant population. We wanted to notify everyone that this will occur during spring break when students are not in the building.
