Bridget Adam receives award of excellence for 15 years of dedicated service to Business Education

The Iowa Business Education Association held its annual fall convention at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in Urbandale on October 23rd and 24th, 2016.  The theme, “Elect Business in 2016”, provided the framework and focus of the conference which included many engaging and informative sessions.

Bridget Adam from Holmes Junior High was one of over 115 Iowa business educators who attended the convention.  Presenters from industry, education, and publishing companies provided timely information on a wide range of topics offered during the conference.  Breakout sessions included topics such as entrepreneurship, accounting, technology, marketing, and personal finance.  Roundtable discussions were held to facilitate sharing of methods in a variety of subjects.  There were also sessions on regional business advisory committees.

This year’s keynote speaker was Gaye Hanson, a master storyteller with a unique ability to bring the audience on a ride through the joys and challenges of life that they won’t soon forget.  Audiences have been brought to laughter then tears and back again as she shares personal stories of tragedy and triumph.  Gaye’s motto is “IGNITING THE WINNER WITHIN YOU”.  As a middle school teacher Gaye saw students in her classroom lethargic and uninterested in school and learning.  Her enthusiasm and spark turned their test scores from plummeting into the ground to exploding off the charts.  Most importantly she gave each of these students a special gift...a love and enthusiasm for learning that’s still exploding to new heights today.

While at the convention Bridget was presented with an award of excellence for 15 years of dedicated service to Business Education.  Bridget has taught Business Education at Holmes Junior High for the past two years and prior to that she was the business teacher for the South Winneshiek Community School district in Calmar, Iowa for 13 years
